emotional support animal assessments
LiveWell Counseling provides clinically appropriate evaluations for Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letters.
Because this is a mental health service, not an administrative form, we approach ESA requests the same way we approach all care: ethically, clinically, and in alignment with state and federal guidelines. We do understand the importance of animal relationships and the benefit they can provide us. However, we do not provide documentation for the sole purpose of bypassing pet fees, pet deposits, or housing policies without cause.
Here are the details
What to Expect
If you request an ESA letter, we will complete a clinical assessment that may include:
Review of current symptoms and diagnosis (when applicable)
Discussion of functional impairment and how symptoms impact daily life
Review of relevant history and treatment needs
Screening questionnaires and/or additional documentation when clinically indicated
If, based on clinical findings, an ESA letter is appropriate, we can provide written documentation. Insurance is not accepted for this assessment, pricing information will be provided after initial inquiry form is completed.
Location & Other Details
ESA evaluations are completed via telehealth. You must be physically located in Minnesota or North Dakota at the time of your appointment. Appointment length and number of appointments will be determined after intake documents are completed.
Important Notes
Letters are not guaranteed. A letter can only be provided when it is clinically appropriate and supported by assessment findings.
Third-party acceptance is not guaranteed. Landlords, housing providers, airlines, and other parties may have their own processes and may deny accommodations even with documentation.
We do not provide “same-day guaranteed letters” or documentation solely for convenience.
We do not provide legal advice. If you have legal questions about accommodations, consult an attorney or the appropriate agency.
Non emergencies
LiveWell is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, call 911 or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
